Glasgow University One Health Society is thrilled to announce that in honor of Feel Good February we will be hosting a Zoom talk with Dr. Katie Ford. A graduate of the University of Liverpool Veterinary School, Dr. Ford worked in small animal practice for 9 years before becoming a speaker and coach. Now, she works to help people in the veterinary field acknowledge their inherent value and overcome those feelings of being an imposter. This talk is not to be missed and will be a wonderful evening sure to leave you #feelinggood! See you there!

"My work integrates behavioural, hormonal, molecular biology and ‘omics approaches to understand the risks of environmental chemical exposure on mammalian physiology and I have widely published on the effects of maternal exposure to 'real-life' mixtures of chemicals (using sheep exposed to biosolids-treated pastures) on offspring physiological systems, including effects on hypothalamic neuroendocrine systems, pituitary cell populations and changes in adult reproductive physiology. My research has also focused on the effects of human exposures during pregnancy, including the effects of maternal smoking, on programming adverse fetal development and long term health consequences in later life"

Antibiotic resistance is a hot topic on the global health scene as scientists suggest we have entered a "post-antibiotic era" in which once treatable diseases might not be as easily taken care of. However, there is a possible answer to antibiotic resistance and that is phage therapy. Phage therapy is the use of lytic bacteriophages to kill bacteria, and has been found to be effective in some treatments. Tune in to learn more about this fascinating topic from postdoctoral researcher Lucy Grist. A researcher at the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine, Lucy focused on phage therapy in her studies. This will be a great night, and we look forward to seeing you there!

In 2014, Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick, also known as the Supervet, started the Humanimal Trust with the goal to promote One Medicine. By creating a platform in which human and animal medical professionals, as well as researchers, could collaborate and learn from each other, the gaps between human and animal medicine are closing. One of the great features of the Humanimal Trust is the Humanimal Hub, an online community of medical professionals (including students) who interact and discuss the five areas of One Medicine including musculoskeletal disease, neurology and neurosurgery, medical and surgical oncology, infections and antibiotic resistance, and regenerative medicine. To learn more about the Humanimal Trust, One Medicine, ongoing research, and ways to get involved, tune into this discussion. We look forward to seeing you there!

Join us to hear Dr. Jennie Lane discuss her experience getting involved with One Health, Rx One Health, and opportunities available to students seeking to get involved. Dr. Lane received her DVM from Michigan State University and her MPH from the University of California, Berkley, after which she became a Leland International Hunger Fellow. She has since become the program manager and field veterinarian for Rx One Health and runs the Rx One Health Field Institute. She has also been involved with USAID PREDICT-2 project in Ethiopia and Tanzania, Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems, and Land-O-Lakes international development. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to hear from her and learn from her vast experience.
