One Health is the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health to create solutions to make the world a better place. We encourage communication and collaboration between disciplines to facilitate the development of holistic solutions because by taking all sides into consideration we get better outcomes for all.
WHO WE ARE
Goal
Glasgow University One Health Society is a student-run organization devoted to promoting One Health awareness and action. Topics we focus on include zoonotic disease, antimicrobial resistance, vector-borne diseases, food security, environmental contamination, and mental health. We host talks with professionals and explore the One Health approach. We also run a host of other programs including the Green Fleet, Shop Local Shop Sustainable campaign, and Sofa Sessions that promote the One Health agenda.
WHAT WE DO
Making A Difference
AWARENESS
We raise awareness about different One Health topics including zoonotic disease, vector-borne disease, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, environmental change, and mental health.
COLLABORATE
Our goals are to help build a multidisciplinary network of professionals so that we can increase communication and collaboration between disciplines.
ACTION
We run a host of programs to help put One Health into action. Our most current endeavor is the Green Fleet which is a fleet of bikes that are available for free for students to rent out for an entire semester.
"Professionals in human health (doctors, nurses, public health practitioners, epidemiologists), animal health (veterinarians, paraprofessionals, agricultural workers), environment (ecologists, wildlife experts), and other areas of expertise need to communicate, collaborate on, and coordinate activities. Other relevant players in a One Health approach could include law enforcement, policymakers, agriculture, communities, and even pet owners. No one person, organization, or sector can address issues at the animal-human-environment interface alone."
